Through the Eyes of an Intern

While I was studying abroad in London this past spring, I looked all over the internet and various employment sites for marketing internships in the Bay Area. I stumbled upon the CreaTV marketing internship and it immediately took my interest because I have a desire to work in entertainment and non-profit environments. After a Skype interview with Chad (CreaTV CEO), I got the internship and started my work in June.

I have learned so much during my time at CreaTV and I am very thankful for the opportunity. This was my first ever professional job and has made me even more excited for a career in marketing, and hopefully in media or entertainment as well. My main projects were working on blogs, social media and the launch of The Creatives Celebration.

I have always loved writing so working on the CreaTV blog was a very fun task for me. I started the summer writing a blog about our Make Music Day event. After this, I was in charge writing a blog for each week of the Summer Documentary Institute, which was definitely my favorite thing I did. I loved meeting all of the SDI interns and students while getting to follow their journey. I interviewed them each week, to see their growth and hear the impact this program was having on their lives. I loved learning effective ways to interview and how to put that into writing. My favorite blog was week five of SDI, after the documentary screening because readers were able to learn about this program and it’s impact. I am so happy I was able to inform the community through the blogs.

I spent a lot of time working on CreaTV’s social media. I created posts to go on various accounts. I also learned how to use Hootsuite to schedule posts. I did research on company’s social media policies as well as useful hashtags and statistics for each social media platform. I posted about Make Music Day, the Summer Documentary Institute, national holidays and the Creatives Celebration. I took a lot of pictures when I attended the Buena Vista block party and got to post about that. I also learned a lot about podcasting and interviewing at that event.

I was given the opportunity to work a great deal on the launch of the Creatives Celebration. I scheduled social media posts for this, helped with blogs, emailed members and called members to inform them about the event. Calling people was definitely hard for me at first but it got a lot easier with each call. I also contacted radio stations for advertising the event.

I really enjoyed my internship with CreaTV. I learned a lot about communicating, writing, journalism, marketing, social media, working in teams, and how to use tools such as excel, Hootsuite, and Photoshop. The highlight of my internship was definitely helping with SDI.

Overall, I am thankful for this experience and I know I learned so many fantastic and valuable skills that will serve me well in my marketing career. Thank you to Miranda, Chad, Vanessa, James, Shawna and everyone I got to work and connect with! I really like the positive environment CreaTV has and the emphasis on community, learning, and impact.
