The past three seasons CreaTV has been working with volunteers to bring you high school sports coverage on our channels! We had tryouts for this season’s sports coverage team early this September. After testing, we came out with 12 amazing volunteers. During tryouts we had them demonstrate basic camera movements & skills, tripod set up & break down, and taught them how to do graphics and audio from our truck.
Luis Costa, our Programming Manager has been the one working with the students and mentoring them through the process. “It’s really great, we get to give coverage to those who normally wouldn’t have it, and getting to work with students is really rewarding. They get real world experience and get to try out lots of different crew positions.” We have a partnership with the trade students from the Silicon Valley Career Technical Education. CreaTV always makes sure to reach out to them about our sports program every year, and we are lucky enough to have previous students recommend us to new volunteers every time!

As we were recruiting students this fall, we had a number of media teachers from the East Side ask us if we could focus some of our training and coverage in their district. Students from this area often have a difficult time traveling the long distances to CreaTV and the district is always searching for meaningful out of school time opportunities for students. So, CreaTV decided to hit the road!
This upcoming Spring we are excited to be working with the Eastside School District with students from Mt. Pleasant, James Lick, & William C. Overfelt high school. CreaTV will be teaching classes at each of the schools and giving students the chance to be on our sports coverage team. We will be airing girls basketball and for the first time ever, boys soccer- so get pumped for next season!
