The summer was a very busy and exciting time for CreaTV, with lots of transitions and implementing a new strategic plan. We hope that you will save the date for October 17th and join us to learn about the forward-looking changes at our Annual Member Celebration! In July, we officially turned 10 years old and leading up to that milestone, the staff and board worked for over a year to think through what would it would take to make the organization just as impactful for the next 10 years. We spent a great deal of time evaluating what we do well, and where we might need to grow.
As we all know, the media landscape has changed a lot in the last decade. When CreaTV started, YouTube was only three years old and the first iPhone had just come out. Since then, distributing, consuming, and making media has changed dramatically! A decade ago, we were excited to browse the web on our phones and now, we don’t think twice about watching a TV show while we wait in line or on sit on an airplane.
CreaTV San Jose has been, and will continue to be, the community’s trusted partner in helping members, nonprofit organizations, and local governments produce high quality, professional content. We will always be an affordable and accessible production partner to help tell the stories of our community. Through our strategic planning process, we recognized we could be so much more!
We want to build more meaningful partnerships and relationships with the community and create more opportunities for people to learn how to tell their own stories. We want to serve the entire city and embed ourselves in the unique and diverse neighborhoods that make San Jose so special. And we want you to inform and influence what kinds of classes we teach and who we serve. We believe that being more responsive and intentional about our work, will make us even more impactful, no matter what happens with the future of TV or any media technology.
In order to accomplish this goal, we have made some changes to our staffing structure and will be making some changes in our policies to serve the community more effectively. This is indeed an exciting time for CreaTV! Firstly, we have created three new positions dedicated to building relationships and courses.
As the new Community Media Coordinator Jenene Austen Daulton will be leading this charge. She will be working alongside long time CreaTV staff Ana Zavala, and newcomer to San Jose, James Harris, as the Community Media Specialists. Mickey Beese, our Operations Director for the last 5 years, will now focus her talents on helping the community create content, as the Director of Production. Supporting that work, long time Access Facilitator, Jason Riles has stepped into the Producer role. Greeting you most mornings when you come to the office, is Miranda Moore, who is our Receptionist and Administrative Assistant. And Jocelyn Bringas has taken on a new position within the organization as the Content and Tech Strategist, working with two of our 10-year veteran staff, Justin Cowgill, CTO, and Luis Costa, Programming Manager.
To learn more about all the exciting changes and the vision we have for the future of Community Media, I want to personally invite you to the Annual Members Celebration. The Members Celebration (formally know at the Annual Meeting) will be held at the CreaTV San Jose studios October 17th from 6-8pm. Come meet new staff, enjoy delicious food and drink, and make some media! From 6-6:45pm, we’ll have Studio B set up for you to make your own show promo, create a station ID, or to make your own special birthday shout out to CreaTV! At 7pm, we’ll share some of the policy, programming and membership updates. And then, we’ll go live on 15 to thank our intern, volunteer and producer of the year, and give you an opportunity to sit down with me and chat. It should be a really fun
