The top of the webpage for the Media Justice Grassroots Network (MAG-Net) reads: There are no voiceless people. Only people who haven’t been heard, yet. This statement rings true to the staff, board and members of CreaTV, as we work to put the tools for media creation into the hands of folks who are often not heard.
For the last six months, CreaTV has been going through a strategic planning process examining what impact we want to have over the next 3-5 years. In an ever-shifting media landscape, and a technological and communications world (especially in Silicon Valley) that evolves at lighting speed, how do we stay relevant to the communities we serve?
One of the strategies that’s risen to the top is being intentional about the partnerships we form and having a commitment to equity. This is why CreaTV recently became a member of MAG-Net. The media justice framework , that the network works towards , is built into the DNA of CreaTV and many of the values of Community Media.
Media Justice is a long-term vision to democratize the economy, government, and society through policies and practices that ensure: democratic media ownership, fundamental communication rights; universal media and technology access, and meaningful, accurate representation within news and popular culture for everyone.
As we continue to refine our strategic goals, we hope you will work with us to shift our media landscape and help us tell the stories of those who have not been heard yet.
